  • World Aids Day
    The day was celebrated with an awareness rally to spread awareness in association with the CASTALIA Educational Charitable Trust, Trivandrum. The students of the department took active participation and the rally that began within the college grounds continued all the way to the railway station. Awareness on AIDS, the necessary protective measures to be adopted, health living, and other prominent areas of awareness were put up on pluck cards and held by the participants. Commuters were given the opportunity to read through the placards and other awareness material.

  • Manomukulam – Green Initiative
    As part of the Green Initiative of the department, a program that included the faculty and the students of the Department was launched, and it was named “Manomukulam”. The expectation was to promote ways of healthier living, cultivation and having fresh eatables that are locally grown, devoid of pesticides and other chemical agents.

    A program named KARUTHAL, meaning care or concern was launched to support those students who need financial aid, but somehow does not come under the overheads providing assistance, or to supplement those who are already receiving assistance that is not adequate to meet their daily requirements.

  • COGNETHRA
    Kerala lacked a common platform for the students of the mental health disciplines to come together, interact, share ideas and nurture relations. To this end, the Department organized the first ever mental health fest in the state, under the Title ‘COGNETHRA’ on 13th and 14th of January 2017. Students from different Mental Health Disciplines, namely from Psychology Departments, the Social Works, the Nursing, and even the Educational Streams across South-India took part in the events.

  • World Aids Day
    Aids, the disease, its prevention and the management was the motto behind the World Aids Day program that the department organized in collaboration with KSACS (Kerala State Aids Control Society). The awareness program was supplemented with the pamphlets that were distributed. Red ribbon to show support and solidarity, bookmarks to be a continuous and gentle reminder, as well as booklets for prevention and control of AIDS were distributed among the students of the institution.

  • Children’s’ Day Celebration
    As part of the children’s day celebration, students of First Semester M.Sc. Psychology visited Mom’s Nest play school, Thangassery. They interacted with the teachers and the children at the school, and was able to gain a first-hand experience as to how a play school going child would interact and begin to socialize. The opportunity helped the students to understand the behaviors in association with the existing theoretical structures of development.

  • World Mental Health Day
    An Inter-Departmental painting competition was organized to celebrate international world mental health day on the 10th of October with the theme word of “Mental Health” provided to the participants, on spot. This event began soon after the first hour and attracted many students. These students were then interacted with, by the volunteer students from within the department who answered queries related to psychology, from the part of the gathering. A Street Play was organized in the college during the lunch break with the similar objective of spreading awareness on Mental Health concepts among students.

    In an attempt to minimize the discrimination that happens on the basis of age (ageism) among the students of the department, a visit was made to St. Vincent’s Old age Home, Keralapuram.

  • ALZHEIMER’S DAY PROGRAM
    The Departmental Association organized an Alzheimer’s Awareness Program with the intend of educating the students of the college about the disorder. Alzheimer's disease is an irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, and, eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks. In most people with Alzheimer's, symptoms first appear in their mid-60s; and the earlier the detection occurs the higher the chances of better management and slowing down the progressive rate.

  • TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION
    The students of the Department under the organizational skills of the Departmental Association planned a Teachers Day Celebration to show gratitude for the help that the teachers provided. The program comprised of sharing the memorable experiences that the students had with the teachers and how some gestures had moved them into who they are today.

    Nutritional therapy works very well alongside other treatments and was therefore prudent to provide the aspiring psychologists with a session from the expert. The session provided the students with the run down on how the initial appointment works and how to proceed through the sessions.

  • WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY CELEBRATION
    In tune with the theme of the year, the department created an installation where in a dried-up tree stump was pasted with green coloured paper leaves, with slogans written on it as well as quotes and pledges regarding the extension of dignity to those suffering from mental health concerns. The installation was highlighted as the presence and nurturance of hope through collective efforts of the society.

  • WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY AWARENESS
    The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day, observed on 10 October, is "Dignity in mental health". Where better to start, than at the ears of the future – the students who would be active listeners and who would take it back to their parents in the evening which would have double the effect than any other group of listeners. The students were highly enthusiastic and promised to not hurt the feelings of those with mental health concerns, and support them in any way they can. The Department team that visited the nearby schools were overwhelmed with the positive response and assured that services will be extended in future as well.
